For City Folks, A Chance to See Moose and Elks

Experiencing these grand mammals in their natural habitat and away from a zoo facility is both breathtaking and outstanding. When you encounter moose, you will see they stand around 6-feet-tall and can weigh anywhere between 500 and 1500 pounds.

Moose were introduced into the park during the 1970s and 1980s and are always a popular choice among individuals and families on their Rocky Mountain National Park vacation.

In recent years, there are several thousand moose that are mainly found on the west side of the park.

There are also thousands of elk within the park. They should always be observed at a safe distance and it is necessary to ensure that you understand the park’s visitor safety rules, which will explain how to keep sufficient distance between you and the animals. The suggestion is that if you are within 25 yards of any wildlife, you are too close.

Your Rocky Mountain National Park vacation will be enhanced when you see the bighorn sheep, most commonly seen during the summer months. There are also marmots, which tend to live in the higher areas of the park.

There is an enormous variety of birds that either live or pass through the park. Some of the birds migrate while others remain throughout the entire year. There are many bird watching programs organized by the Rangers as they are the experts and can provide hours of useful knowledge and entertainment for visitors.

Please ensure you understand why you should not feed wild animals as it is important to learn how all the wildlife lives and survives within the park.
