Rocky Mountain Moosings, National Park Birthday

“Within National Parks is room – glorious room – room in which to find ourselves, in which to think and hope, to dream and plan, to rest and resolve.”

~ Enos Mills, “Father of Rocky Mountain National Park”

On January 26th, 2015, Rocky Mountain National Park officially turns 100 years old. ONE HUNDRED years old on this day, the day that the official legislation was signed after extensive lobbying and unwavering passion from Enos Mills, a naturalist and Colorado homesteader, and other committed groups and individuals that wanted to see this remarkable land preserved and protected for all. For the people, animals, trees, living geological landscapes, for all this is now and for all that was—this remarkable effort serves all. My heart cascades gratitude to depths of my being for this great act, because for me, there is no greater kinship of land and life than that which can be found in Rocky Mountain National Park and in all of our protected lands. In celebration of this momentous event, I would like to share with you some images from just a few of my fortunate journeys into this enchantment which is Rocky Mountain National Park. I hope our paths cross in The Park someday—you’ll find me  in a sunlit mountain meadow, or maybe  on a craggy summit slope,  or at an ice cold pool treating my well traveled toes —I’ll be the one with a camera and a smile. Let us share our kinship and appreciation for this majestic wilderness and give cheers to the next hundred years.

Flattop Mountain Trail-April 2013

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.

East Inlet January 2015-2

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.

What is the good of your stars and trees, your sunrise and the wind, if they do not enter into our daily lives?
