Trail Ridge Road is closed for most of the year at the Colorado River Trail, about 10 miles into RMNP, due to snowpack and ice on the road. Through access to Estes Park is not typically possible between November-May. The road may open around Memorial Day weekend, but weather may cause temporary closures until the road is cleared.
Check Trail Ridge Road status at anytime by calling the recorded phone line at (970) 586-1222. Park staff will update the recorded line during and after regular office hours, when the road status changes.
Timed entry permits are required beginning mid May – mid October between the hours of 9am – 2pm. Permits are not required for times outside this window. Click here to make your reservation.
