“WHAT’S A KID TO DO?”

Plenty! Outdoorsy, active, adventurous, Grand Lake is an ideal ‘playground’ for kids of all ages.  With so many recreation activities and attractions, boredom is not an option here. Let’s play!

Grand Lake Colorado Beach

LAKE LOVE: Just add water for instant fun. At Headwaters Marina on Grand Lake, you’ll find pontoon boats, pedal boats and Crestliners to rent. The Kayak Shak can have you paddling in no time, or hop on a Stand Up Paddle Board from Rocky Mountain SUP.  Splash around and make a sand castle at Grand Lake’s beach and park, too. Boat rentals area also available at Trail Ridge Marina, Beacon’s Landing and Highland Marina just minutes away. For fishing fun, see the experts at Kirk’s Fly Shop for local info on where to drop a line.

Cold Water? No Problem! Kids aren’t held back by 65 degree water temps, so pack your swimsuits, sunscreen and beach toys and spend some time on Grand Lake’s sandy beach!

THINGS ON WHEELS: Kids on the move will love Rocky Hi Speedway where you can drive a Go Kart and Bumper Cars. Take kids to the trails with an ATV by renting from On the Trail Rentals. Zoom zoom! Looking to cover more terrain? Try Grand County Adventure Company – they’ll meet you at the location of your choice and deliver fat bikes.

MINI GOLF: Try for a hole-in-one at Meandering Moose miniature golf. It’s a challenge! Or putt around at the mini-golf course adjacent to Grand Lake Hardware Store on Grand Ave. We dare you to find mini golf courses with a better view!

HORSING AROUND: Take a trail ride through spectacular scenery at Winding River Resort.  Younger riders can take a pony ride, visit the petting zoo, and take a lively Hay Ride. Thunder Horse Outfitters also offers adventurous rides and activities. Watch for moose and elk too – they love this area as much as we do.

Adams Falls Hike
Adams Falls Trail

TAKE A HIKE: The signature Grand Lake hike is to Adams Falls, located at the far end of town. The hike to the dramatically beautiful falls is only about a third of a mile, making it both kid-friendly and rewarding. Continue on to see meadows and creeks and possibly some wildlife.  Grand Lake is two miles from the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park where tons of kid-friendly hikes are available.

LIFE IS SWEET: Nothing says summer-pleasure like a sweet treat! In the historic downtown area, we have scrumptious options for ice cream, pastries, handmade candy, fudge and more. Stop by Dairy King, The HUB, Grand Lake Chocolates, and the Quacker Gift Shop. At the beach, ice cream is available at Miyauchi’s. Savor your treats at our town park and make time to play on the playground, too.

Model Trains at the Moffat Railroad Museum

Learn Something: If you’re wanting to spend some time indoors? Head to a local museum and soak up some history and have some fun. The Moffat Railroad Museum in Granby has an incredible indoor model train exhibit and vintage train cars that are sure to delight every age. The Kauffman House museum offers a peek into early life in Grand Lake and is nestled right next to the beach!
