The Coyote Valley Trail is a 1.9-mile out-and-back route located in Rocky Mountain National Park. Generally considered easy, this trail typically takes around 30 minutes to complete and offers a pleasant experience for hikers of all ages. It is a popular spot for birding, fishing, and hiking, so encountering fellow visitors is common. As with all trails in RMNP, dogs are not permitted.

The trail features a paved path that provides breathtaking views of the Colorado River and surrounding peaks. Wildlife enthusiasts should keep an eye out for elk, moose, and occasionally bears, as these animals are known to frequent the area. For those using wheelchairs or strollers, the trail surface is hard-packed crushed stone, and the majority of the trail has a gentle grade. The steepest section is in the first 0.1 miles when heading north, and the average cross slope is around 2%. There are benches and picnic tables along the route for resting. While the trail is generally wheelchair-accessible, assistance may be needed in the steeper section.

Restrooms are available at the trailhead, and a picnic area is located a short distance up the trail, making it a great spot to enjoy lunch. Although this trail tends to see fewer crowds compared to other park trails, it remains a picturesque and enjoyable outing.

In the winter months, Coyote Valley Trail can be explored using cross-country skis or snowshoes, offering a different perspective of the snowy landscape. Keep in mind that trail conditions in September may include muddy areas and insect activity, particularly mosquitoes. September typically offers cool weather with a chance of rain, and trail surfaces may be muddy.
