Summer in Grand Lake

Book Lodging Early:

Summer, especially July, is peak season in Grand Lake. Lodging fills up fast, so book several months in advance to secure your preferred dates and location. This is particularly important if you're planning to visit around holidays or major summer events.

Reserve Marina Rentals Ahead of Time:

If you plan to enjoy boating or kayaking on the lake, make marina reservations early. Summer demand is high, so securing your spot well in advance ensures you’ll be able to enjoy time on the water.

Get a Timed Entry Reservation for RMNP:

From May to October, Rocky Mountain National Park requires timed entry reservations to manage visitor flow. You can reserve a spot on Recreation.gov up to 60 days in advance, with additional tickets being released at 5 p.m. the day before entry. Be sure to select an entry time and choose the option (not Bear Lake) that includes Grand Lake if you’re entering from town.

Prepare for Crowds and Early Starts:

Trails, popular sights, and parking areas can get crowded in summer, so start your day early to enjoy cooler temperatures and quieter trails. Consider visiting popular spots, such as Adams Falls, mid-week and quieter trails, such as Doe Creek, on the weekends to minimize impact to the trails.

Pack for Changing Weather:

Summer days are generally warm but temperatures can drop in the evenings. Bring layers, sunscreen, and plenty of water for daytime activities. Keep in mind that in the summer months thunderstorms are more likely to come in during the afternoon, so plan on outdoor activities in the morning and in-town activities in the afternoon.
