Celebrate the Fourth of July in Grand Lake
Summer fun peaks in Grand Lake on the Fourth of July when a dazzling display of fireworks lights up the night sky and sets the lake ashimmer. The festive atmosphere begins well before dark, with live music and delicious food available throughout the town. Gather your family and friends for a spectacular midsummer celebration on Colorado’s largest natural lake—an experience that makes Grand Lake fireworks one of the most anticipated events of the season.

A Splendid Tradition on the Water
The 30-minute fireworks show begins at approximately 10 p.m. The colorful bursts, which light up the gorgeous mountain backdrop that surrounds the lake and create a sparkling reflection in the water, are launched from a barge near Headwaters Marina. The display can be viewed from almost anywhere in town, although Lakefront Park is a favorite base camp, where many visitors set up their chairs and blankets earlier in the day to claim a good spot. The Marina also has a few seats on docked pontoon boats that can be reserved for a small fee.
Many people choose to take in the spectacle from a boat—a truly unique experience. Town docks are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no overnight mooring allowed. Find boat ramps on both Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir, and expect some traffic getting in the water. Be sure your boat has proper lighting, and if you’re on a non-motorized craft, come prepared for the dark.
Keep in mind that inclement weather or fire bans may cause the event to be canceled. Find up-to-date information on this page closer to the event.
More Ways to Celebrate Around Town
The skyward spectacle may be the icing on the birthday cake, but there are plenty of other activities to enjoy as well. The celebration begins on the morning of July 4th with a community favorite—the Rotary Club’s all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast. Tickets are $10, cash only, and children under five eat for free. Our neighbor, Granby, hosts a themed parade at 11 a.m. that includes a military flyover, as well as a multi-day rodeo.
Across this charming lakeside destination, restaurants and bars foster a festive atmosphere with live music, plus the free summer concert series in Town Park, held weekly on Wednesdays, also kicks off that week.
Plan for a Smooth Holiday
Grand Lake is a small town, and thousands of visitors join us for the evening show. Arrive in the morning to find parking and secure a prime spot for viewing the fireworks. While the sun is out, embrace lake life and enjoy our plentiful hiking trails, myriad area parks, shopping along the boardwalk, and local restaurants.
Free parking is located along Park Avenue, Grand Avenue, and Lake Avenue, all of which are within a few minutes walk of the Marina and the Lake. To help reduce congestion, carpooling is highly recommended. Expect heavy traffic following the fireworks display, as it usually takes about an hour for the town to fully clear out. A better option is to stay the night in one of our cozy hotels or cabins—just make reservations in advance.
