Rocky Mountain National Park, Via East Inlet Trail

Best Time of Year: May 01 - Sep 30

The hike to Spirit Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park follows the East Inlet Trail and is about 13.5-miles out-and-back. This route offers a challenging but rewarding adventure. Popular for backpacking, camping, and fishing, this trail takes about 6 hours to complete and is best visited from May through September. As with all RMNP trails, dogs are not allowed.
Starting at the East Inlet Trailhead, the hike initially follows the East Inlet Trail. Along the way, you'll pass Adams Falls and journey through beautiful meadows and forested areas before reaching Lake Verna, about 6 miles in. For those seeking more, Spirit Lake is only about a mile past Lake Verna and is the third lake along the East Inlet Trail, followed by Fourth and Fifth Lake. The trail offers a peaceful extension with fewer crowds, leading to stunning views of Spirit Lake and the surrounding mountains.
Spirit Lake is a great destination for those wanting to explore beyond the more popular Lake Verna, offering even more solitude and scenic beauty deep in the park.
