Pond Hockey Classic
9th Annual Pond Hockey Classic
Every winter, hockey returns to its roots on the frozen surface of Grand Lake.
The Grand Lake Pond Hockey Classic brings players and spectators together for two full days of outdoor hockey played on natural ice, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and wide-open sky. Games start early, the energy builds fast, and the lake becomes the center of town for the weekend.
Saturday features the adult tournament, with teams battling it out rink-side while friends, families, and fans line the ice. Sunday shifts to the youth tournament, where the next generation takes over the lake in a setting they won’t forget.
Off the ice, the weekend feels unmistakably Grand Lake. Morning coffee before puck drop. Apres-hockey drinks around town. Cozy dinners, glowing storefronts, and the kind of winter nights that make staying an extra day an easy decision.
If you’re looking for a winter weekend that combines live action, small-town energy, and true mountain atmosphere, this is it. Plan to arrive early, stay late, and make the most of one of Grand Lake’s most iconic winter traditions.
