The East Shore Trail follows the shores of Shadow Mountain Reservoir down to Lake Granby, offering scenic lake views and plenty of small beaches where you can pause to dip your toes in the cool water. This trail has two entry points: one on Jericho Road and another near the Green Ridge Campground. If you start from Green Ridge, you’ll begin within Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), meaning timed entry reservations are required from May to October. However, if you enter on Jericho Road, you’ll only officially enter RMNP about a mile into the trail, so plan accordingly for park access.

The East Shore Trail is part of the Continental Divide Trail and continues through both RMNP and the Arapaho National Forest. Wildlife like moose and deer are often spotted along the shore, so keep an eye out as you hike. For those seeking a challenge, a trail branch leads up to the Shadow Mountain Fire Tower—a steep but rewarding detour with panoramic views. This trail is also a great winter destination, perfect for snowshoeing or skiing among the snow-covered pines.
