The Big Meadow hike on the Green Mountain Trail offers a 3.5-mile out-and-back hike in RMNP near the Grand Lake entrance. This moderately challenging route typically takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. It’s a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and hiking, so encountering fellow hikers is common. The trailhead features restrooms for added convenience before heading out on the trail.

The trail follows a picturesque creek before ascending to the intersection with the South Tonahutu/Big Meadows and Oahu Creek Trails, near the Big Meadows Group campsite. Notably, the Green Mountain Trail is also part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail, allowing hikers to experience a segment of this iconic route. It's important to note that the trail was affected by the East Troublesome Fire in 2020, which caused significant damage to the surrounding forest. Despite the changes to the landscape, the trail remains a beautiful and rewarding destination with stunning views and beautiful wildflowers.

Open year-round, the Green Mountain Trail is particularly stunning in the winter months when it transforms into a serene snowy landscape, making it a great choice for winter hiking. However, dogs are not permitted on this trail, so it’s best to leave pets at home.
