The Cascade Falls hike spans 6.8 miles out-and-back and is generally considered a moderately challenging route. This popular trail, which typically takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete, is a favored destination for backpacking, camping, and fishing. As a result, hikers can expect to encounter others along the way. As with all RMNP trails, dogs are not allowed on the trail.

The trail follows the North Inlet trail and is well-known for its beautiful waterfall. Hikers will pass several backcountry camping sites making it a suitable choice for those planning to set up camp overnight. It's important to note that the area was impacted by the East Troublesome Fire in 2020, which has altered the landscape. The fire has resulted in minimal shade along the trail due to the loss of trees, although vibrant undergrowth is making a comeback.

Cascade Falls is best visited between May and October. While the trail is not recommended for winter hiking, it can be an excellent shoulder-season adventure. During spring and fall, the trail may still experience winter-like conditions, so it's advisable to check the weather forecast and bring appropriate gear, such as extra layers and microspikes or snowshoes if recent snowfall has occurred.

Recent reviews highlight that the trail offers stunning views but limited shade. Hikers are encouraged to start early to enjoy cooler temperatures and increase their chances of spotting wildlife such as moose and deer. September typically provides ideal hiking weather with cooler temperatures, though shade remains sparse until the area fully recovers from the fire.
