Experience the 10.2-mile Timber Lake Trail near Grand Lake, Colorado, a challenging hike that takes about 6 hours. Popular for backpacking, camping, and fishing, this trail offers some solitude, especially during quieter times. As with all trails in RMNP, dogs are not allowed.
Starting at the Timber Lake Trailhead, the trail climbs through lodgepole pine forests and scenic meadows. You'll pass an active landslide area about 2.5 miles in, which is manageable for those with moderate hiking experience. As you ascend, enjoy views of the Never Summer Mountains and Kawuneeche Valley. Timber Lake, located in a large basin beneath Mount Ida, is perfect for fishing and exploring.
In winter, the trail requires backcountry skills and gear, as snow can linger into early summer. Always check weather and avalanche conditions and be prepared with extra layers.
