Lake Granby
Lake Granby is one of Colorado’s largest and most scenic lakes, spanning an impressive 7,250 acres. The outdoor destination offers year-round fun, from boating and fishing to kayaking and camping. Find all the information you need to know to enjoy a day — or more — on the water, including intel on boat rentals, camping, and weather.

Camping at Lake Granby
Nestled against the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area and the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, this expansive reservoir has more than 250 campgrounds situated along its shoreline. The three main sites all feature picnic tables, campfire rings or fire grates, vault toilets, tent pads, and incredible lake views, along with stargazing opportunities once the sun sets.
Stillwater Campground, located on the north shore, offers 129 spots for tents, trailers, and RVs (some of which have electric hookups). Sunset Point Campground is a first-come, first-served facility with 25 non-electric sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs. Cutthroat Bay Group Campground encompasses two sites that can host up to 30 people each.
Fees are required, and reservations are recommended for Stillwater and Cutthroat Bay. Advance camping bookings in the area are highly encouraged, especially during peak season.
Boat Rentals on Lake Granby
From the mountain views to the sheltered bays that create the ideal conditions for water sports, the lake is a boater’s paradise. Motorized and non-motorized boating is permitted, and there are two marinas offering pontoon boat rentals: Indian Peaks Marina on the western shore and Beacon Landing Marina on the north. Both welcome dogs aboard, so there’s no need to leave your furry friend behind. Reserve your vessel as early as possible, especially if you’re visiting on a weekend.
Beacon Landing also rents canoes and runs fishing charters — a Colorado fishing license is required and can be purchased at the marina. Grand County Kayaks rents out kayaks and stand-up paddleboards and will deliver them to you at the lake.
Lake Granby Weather & Safety
In the mountains, the weather is always variable. Pack layers and keep an eye on the sky so you know if a thunderstorm (typical in the summer months) is rolling in.
The weather at the lake can range from hot, bluebird days during summertime to winter blizzards. Ice fishing is typically possible from early January to late April — always check ice depths for safety — while boating and watersports are best enjoyed from May to September.
Whether you’re pitching a tent or ice fishing for trout, this high-country retreat is the perfect destination for adventure and relaxation year-round. Discover all there is to do on the water and around town by planning your getaway now.
