Jumpstart your wellness journey with a visit to the Grand Lake Center. This former elementary school has been transformed into a community hub for year-round fitness and recreation complete with fully-equipped weight-lifting and cardio rooms, a gymnasium for basketball and pickleball games, and a group fitness studio featuring a full schedule of yoga and HIIT classes. Looking to try something new? Try your hand at America’s new favorite sport with a beginner pickleball lesson, practice your swing for summer on their state-of-the-art golf simulator, or get in touch with your soul in a new-age sound bath meditation workshop. If you’re committed to building new muscle this year, the Grand Lake Center offers a variety of flexible membership options to meet your needs and budget.

Adventure-seekers in search of new terrain to explore will be delighted to know that the 3,100-mile Continental Divide Trail (CDT) passes directly through downtown Grand Lake providing more than 10 miles of scenic, multi-use pathway in the three lakes region. The CDT can be accessed via several trailheads in the Grand Lake area including the East Shore, Tonahutu, Bowen-Baker and the Shadow Mountain Dam trailheads for activities like hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, trail running, snowshoeing and skiing (some sections are located in Rocky Mountain National Park – please check fees and pet regulations here:  https://gograndlake.com/rocky-mountain-national-park-fees-passes-hours-and-pets/).

Alternatively, the Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District also offers single-day and annual passes to access its network of groomed trails for skate and cross-country skiing, as well as a more rugged trail system for snowshoeing. Both trail systems boast beautiful 360-degree views, and dogs are welcome to join you! A cozy clubhouse welcomes you back from your outing with a hot bowl of soup and frosty beverage from the Sly Fox restaurant.

Does the idea of busying your hands while engaging your mind pique your interest? It will warm your heart to hear that the Grand Lake-based Rocky Mountain Folk School offers art classes year round! Instruction is offered in both one-day workshops and multi-class series to help you learn “new” traditional artforms like pottery, acrylic paint pouring, weaving and wood-working. There’s no better place to be on a cold winter night than inside the cozy folk school building, located on Grand Lake’s Town Park, where you can learn a new skill and make some new friends to boot.
